Discord Streamer Mode and Privacy Guide
Streamer Mode hides invite links, connected accounts, and notification content while you are broadcasting, but it only activates automatically if Discord detects your streaming software. This guide covers the full setup, plus the privacy settings Streamer Mode does not touch.

How to Setup Streamer Mode in Discord
- Open User Settings (gear icon next to your avatar at the bottom left).
- Scroll down the left sidebar and click Streamer Mode.
- Toggle Enable Streamer Mode to ON (a purple banner will appear at the top of Discord).
- Turn ON Automatically Enable/Disable so Discord automatically protects your screen whenever OBS Studio or Streamlabs is running.
What Streamer Mode hides, and what it leaves exposed
Streamer Mode is a client-side privacy layer for broadcasting. With it on, Discord hides invite links, blurs connected third-party accounts on profiles, suppresses notification content, and can automatically disable sounds so alerts do not cut into your audio. Automatic activation depends on Discord detecting streaming software such as OBS or XSplit through the game activity system.
Several things it does not cover are the ones that most often leak. Your email address in User Settings, the content of a DM you open on stream, server names in your sidebar, and anything visible in another application are all outside its scope. Streamer Mode also does nothing about what you say, which remains the largest source of accidental disclosure on live broadcasts.
For anything beyond casual streaming, a second Discord account used only for broadcasting is a stronger boundary than any setting. It separates your personal servers, DMs, and connections from what appears on screen entirely, and it removes the risk of Streamer Mode failing to activate because the detection did not fire.
Common problems and fixes
- Streamer Mode does not turn on automatically
Detection relies on Discord recognising your streaming software. Add it manually under Registered Games, or toggle Streamer Mode by hand. - Notifications still appear on stream
Enable Hide Notifications inside Streamer Mode, and confirm your operating system notifications are also suppressed. - Your email is visible in settings on stream
Streamer Mode does not mask it. Avoid opening User Settings while live.
