Discord Timestamp Generator
A Discord timestamp renders in each viewer's own timezone, which is the only reliable way to announce an event time to an international server. This generator builds the <t:unix:format> syntax from a date and time and previews all seven display styles, including relative countdowns.
How to use the Timestamp Generator
- Pick the date and time in your own timezone.
- Choose a display format, such as relative, short date, or full.
- Copy the timestamp code and paste it into a message or embed.
Dynamic Localized Timestamps
Timestamps eliminate timezone confusion by converting times automatically for each viewer.
Timestamps that display in each viewer's timezone
A Discord timestamp is written as a Unix time value wrapped in angle brackets with a format flag, and Discord renders it in the timezone of whoever is reading. For an international server this is the only reliable way to announce a time, because writing out a clock time forces every member to do their own conversion and someone always gets it wrong.
There are seven display styles. Short and long variants exist for time and for date, a combined date and time style, a full style that includes the weekday, and the relative style that renders as a live countdown such as in three hours. The relative style is the one most suited to event announcements because it stays accurate as the event approaches without being edited.
Timestamps work in ordinary messages, in embed descriptions and field values, and in most bot output. They do not render in channel names, channel topics, or your profile, where the raw code appears instead. Because the value is a fixed point in time, daylight saving transitions are handled automatically for every viewer.
Common problems and fixes
- The raw code shows instead of a rendered time
Timestamps do not render in channel names, topics, or profile fields. They work in messages and embeds. - The time is off by hours for some members
The Unix value was generated in the wrong timezone. Confirm the source time before converting. - The countdown stopped updating
Relative timestamps update on client refresh rather than continuously. Reopening the channel refreshes them.
Frequently asked questions
Why use Discord dynamic timestamps?
Discord timestamps (
How does the relative countdown timestamp () work?
The relative flag dynamically counts down (e.g. 'in 2 hours' or '5 minutes ago') in real time without needing to edit the message.
Do Discord timestamps work on mobile?
Yes. iOS, Android, desktop, and web clients all natively support and convert timestamp tags.
What is the format for Discord timestamp tags?
Does a Discord timestamp adjust for daylight saving?
Yes. It stores an absolute moment, so each client renders it correctly for its own local rules.
Which format is best for scheduled events?
The relative style, which shows a countdown, paired with a full date and time style so members can also see the exact moment.
Do timestamps work in embeds sent by webhooks?
Yes, inside the description and field values. The separate embed timestamp field is a different mechanism.
