Discord Emoji and Sticker Resizer
Discord rejects custom emoji over 256 KB and downsizes anything larger than 128x128, so an upload that looks fine locally often fails or turns blurry. This tool resizes and compresses in your browser to hit the emoji and sticker limits exactly, with no file leaving your device.
Files are processed in your browser and never uploaded.
How to use the Emoji and Sticker Resizer
- Drop in a PNG, JPG, or GIF from your device.
- Choose emoji at 128x128 or sticker at 320x320 output.
- Download the compressed file and upload it in Server Settings, Emoji.
Discord's upload rules
Custom emoji must be 256 KB or smaller and are displayed at 128 pixels; anything larger is scaled down by Discord anyway, so exporting at 128 keeps the file tiny and the edges crisp. Stickers use 320 pixels and allow 512 KB. Animated emoji require an actual GIF and cannot be produced from a still image.
Making an emoji readable at 22 pixels
In chat, an emoji is rendered at roughly 22 pixels, jumping to 48 when a message contains nothing else. That is the size that matters. Crop tight, drop background detail, and prefer one bold shape over a faithful miniature of a whole picture | the preview above shows both sizes so you can judge before uploading.
The Discord emoji and sticker limits that actually reject uploads
Discord recommends custom emoji at 128 by 128 pixels in a square ratio, and the uploader will resize a larger image automatically. What it will not do is accept an oversized file. The hard cap is 256 KB, and it applies equally to static PNG and animated GIF emoji, which is why an animation that plays fine as a chat attachment is rejected as an emoji.
Stickers follow a separate set of rules that are easy to confuse with the emoji ones. A sticker is 320 by 320 pixels, capped at 512 KB, and accepts PNG, APNG, or Lottie. Notably, stickers do not accept GIF, so an animated sticker has to be APNG or Lottie rather than the format that works for emoji.
Slot counts depend on boost level and are split into separate pools. An unboosted server has 50 static and 50 animated emoji slots, which do not draw from each other, plus 5 sticker slots. Boost Level 1 raises this to 100 of each emoji type and 15 stickers, Level 2 to 150 and 30, and Level 3 to 250 and 60.
Common problems and fixes
- Upload fails instantly with no error detail
The file is over the cap. Emoji must be under 256 KB and stickers under 512 KB regardless of dimensions. - An animated sticker is rejected
Stickers do not accept GIF. Convert to APNG or Lottie, or upload the animation as an emoji instead. - The emoji looks blurry in chat
Emoji display at roughly 32 pixels. Fine detail and text disappear at that size, so simplify the artwork rather than raising resolution.
Frequently asked questions
What size should a Discord emoji be?
128 by 128 pixels and under 256 KB. Discord displays emoji at 128 maximum, so larger files gain nothing.
Can I make an animated emoji here?
No. Animated emoji need a GIF source. This tool produces still PNG files for emoji and stickers.
How many emoji can a server have?
50 static and 50 animated at level 0, rising with each boost level to 250 of each.
Does the transparency trick work on any image?
It removes near-white pixels, which suits logos and line art. Photographs with white in the subject will lose detail.
What size are Discord custom stickers?
Custom stickers must be exactly 320 × 320 pixels in PNG or APNG format and under 512 KB.
Why do emojis look blurry in chat?
In standard chat messages, emojis are rendered at 22 × 22 pixels. High-contrast, bold designs with simple shapes look best at small chat sizes.
Why is my GIF rejected as an emoji when it sends fine in chat?
Chat attachments and emoji use separate size budgets. Chat allows several megabytes; emoji are capped at 256 KB.
Do static and animated emoji share the same slots?
No. They are separate pools, so filling all 50 static slots does not reduce your 50 animated slots.
Is my image uploaded anywhere by this tool?
No. Resizing and compression happen in your browser, and the file never leaves your device.
