Discord Soundboard Audio Converter

Discord soundboard uploads must be shorter than 5.2 seconds and smaller than 512 KB, and the upload silently fails when either limit is missed. This converter trims and compresses your clip in the browser to fit both limits, without sending the file anywhere.

How to use the Soundboard Audio Converter

  1. Drop in an MP3, WAV, or OGG file from your device.
  2. Set the start and end points to trim under the duration limit.
  3. Export the compressed clip and upload it in your server's soundboard.

Discord Soundboard Upload Rules

To ensure quick playback in voice channels, Discord enforces strict soundboard limits:

Discord soundboard limits and why uploads fail

Discord's soundboard has two hard limits and both are strict. The file must be under 512 KB, and the clip must not exceed 5.2 seconds according to Discord's developer documentation, which the client usually presents as a round five seconds. Accepted formats are MP3 and Ogg, and Discord validates the actual audio data rather than trusting the file extension.

In practice the duration is the binding constraint, not the file size. A 5.2 second MP3 at 128 kbps lands somewhere around 80 KB, comfortably inside the cap, so most rejected uploads are simply too long. Trimming to the punchline rather than compressing harder is almost always the correct fix.

Slot counts scale with boosting: an unboosted server has 8 soundboard slots, rising to 24 at Boost Level 1, 36 at Level 2, and 48 at Level 3. Uploading also requires the Create Expressions or Manage Expressions permission, which is why the upload button is simply absent for most members, and the option is not exposed at all in the mobile apps.
