Discord Mention Generator

Mentions are raw syntax like <@id> and <#id>, and Discord only converts them into pings when the format is exactly right. This generator builds that syntax from an ID for users, roles, channels, slash commands, and custom emoji, which is essential when writing embed text a bot will send.

How to use the Mention Generator

  1. Copy the ID of the user, role, or channel with Developer Mode on.
  2. Choose the mention type so the correct prefix is applied.
  3. Paste the generated syntax into a message, embed, or bot config.

Raw Mention Formatting

Pasting raw mention syntax pings roles or references channels even without autocomplete.

Mention syntax and when a mention does not ping

Mentions are raw syntax that Discord renders when the format is exact. A user is written as an ID inside angle brackets with an at sign, a role adds an ampersand, a channel uses a hash, and custom emoji and slash command mentions have their own variants. Typing the syntax by hand is normally unnecessary, but it becomes essential when writing embed text or bot configuration where you cannot use the autocomplete picker.

Rendering and pinging are separate things. A mention inside an embed description renders as a clickable link but does not trigger a notification, which is why announcement embeds often include a plain mention in the message content above the embed. Bots can further restrict this with allowed mentions, so an embed can display a role mention without notifying everyone who holds it.

Mentions do not resolve everywhere. In a channel topic, a channel name, or your profile, the raw syntax appears as text. Inside a code block, mentions are deliberately not parsed, which is the standard way to show mention syntax to someone without pinging them while you explain it.

Common problems and fixes

Frequently asked questions

How do raw Discord mentions work?

<@USER_ID> pings users, <@&ROLE_ID> pings roles, and <#CHANNEL_ID> links channels.

How do I ping a role that is not mentionable?

Bots and webhooks can ping unmentionable roles using raw <@&ROLE_ID> syntax.

How do slash command clickable mentions work?

Use to create a clickable slash command button inside chat.

What is a silent mention in Discord?

Typing @silent at the start of a message suppresses push notifications while still pinging or tagging members.

How do I show mention syntax without pinging?

Wrap it in backticks. Discord does not parse mentions inside code blocks.

Why does a user mention show an ID instead of a name?

The client cannot resolve that user, usually because they are not in the server or are not cached yet.

Can I mention a slash command?

Yes, using the command mention format with the command name and its ID, which renders as a clickable command link.
