Discord serves profile and server banners from its CDN at whatever size the client requests, so the version you see in the app is usually smaller than the file that exists. This tool rebuilds the CDN URL at full resolution and lets you download the original banner in PNG, WebP, or animated GIF.

Discord Banner Dimensions & Formats
Discord supports custom header banners for both Nitro subscriber profiles and boosted servers:
- User Profile Banners: Minimum 680×240 pixels (5:2 aspect ratio). Supports PNG, JPG, and animated GIF up to 10MB.
- Server Banners: Displayed at 960×540 pixels (16:9 aspect ratio) at the top of the channel navigation bar. Unlocked at Level 2 Server Boost (7 boosts).
- Server Invite Splash: 1920×1080 pixels background displayed on server invite links. Unlocked at Level 1 Server Boost (2 boosts).
Profile and server banners, and the different rules for each
Discord has several distinct banner surfaces and they are frequently confused. A profile banner is the strip at the top of a user profile and requires Nitro to set. A server banner appears above the channel list and requires Boost Level 2. The invite splash, the background shown on an invite preview, requires Boost Level 1. Each is a separate asset with its own CDN path.
Aspect ratios differ accordingly. Profile banners are wide and short, around 600 by 240. Server banners are closer to 960 by 540, and invite splashes are larger again. Uploading an image at the wrong ratio results in a centre crop rather than a rejection, which is why banners frequently look cut off rather than simply failing.
As with avatars and icons, the CDN serves the size that is requested, so the version rendered in the client is smaller than the stored asset. Requesting a larger size returns the higher-resolution version. Animated banners, available with Nitro for profiles and at Boost Level 3 for servers, can be retrieved as GIF when the asset hash indicates animation.
Common problems and fixes
- A user has no banner available
Profile banners require Nitro. Accounts without it have a solid colour instead of an image. - The banner is cropped oddly
It was uploaded at the wrong aspect ratio and Discord centre-cropped it to fit. - No server banner is returned
Server banners require Boost Level 2. Below that the server has none.
Frequently asked questions
What is the recommended size for a Discord profile banner?
The recommended aspect ratio is 16:9 or 5:2 with dimensions of 600 × 240 pixels (minimum) or 2048 × 819 for ultra-crisp resolution.
Can I download animated GIF banners?
Yes. If the user or server has an animated banner, select the GIF format to download all animation frames.
What if a user does not have Discord Nitro?
Users without Nitro do not have custom image banners; instead, Discord displays a solid accent color. This tool extracts and displays their custom hex color.
What is the difference between a Server Banner and an Invite Splash?
A Server Banner appears at the top of the channel list in the server. An Invite Splash is the background image displayed on web invite landing pages.
What boost level is required for a server banner?
Static server banners require Boost Level 2 (7 boosts). Animated GIF banners require Boost Level 3 (14 boosts).
Why can I not download some users' banners?
They do not have one. A profile banner requires Nitro, and without it Discord shows a colour rather than an image.
